Starcraft 2 will not have LAN support

Starcraft 2 logoBlizzard has officially confirmed that Starcraft 2 will not be playable over a LAN connection.

The reason for this decision is primarily to prevent piracy, because the following statement is, in my opinion, not a valid reason to strip the LAN support:

Several Battle.net features like advanced communication options, achievements, stat-tracking, and more, require players to be connected to the service, so we’re encouraging everyone to use Battle.net as much as possible to get the most out of StarCraft II.

Although it’s very uncommon to find places without internet connection, the bandwidth might be a critical point.

Blizzard is forcing their customers to gather around an internet connection to play a LAN game. This is nearly as crazy as Valve with their Offline-Steam option where you had to pray that it will work on your LAN party in the early days. But this time praying doesn’t help 😉
